The Sustainable Hydrogen CDT seeks to train ‘Industry ready’ doctorates that can address key issues facing the UK hydrogen sector now and in the future.  The training programme consists of taught development training and applied experiential learning. 

Programme overview

The integrated four year Sustainable Hydrogen PhD programme has three areas of study:

  • Research programme
  • Skills training programme
  • Taught modules 

Research programme

This comprises:

  • Evaluation - reviewing literature, designing experiments, hypothesising
  • Application - experimentation, analysis/synthesis of data and theorising
  • Communication - project reports, journal papers and presentations 

Skills training programme

Our skills training programme include six themes:

  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
  • Responsible Innovation
  • Entrepreneurial
  • Communication
  • Research and Professional

Each area is delivered via a combination of taught development and applied experiential learning.  As a student you will also have a skills e-portfolio to act as a record of development over the course of the PhD.   

Taught modules

The integrated 4 year Sustainable Hydrogen PhD programme inlcudes 120 credits of taught modules. The taught programme consists of certain core modules and optional modules as described in the table below.

You are not limited to the optional modules from the list below, but can also select modules from any partner University to achieve 120 credits of taught modules. Credits will be accumulated from modules at Masters level or final year Bachelors level.

Progression

Our students need to submit a progression report every year to their awarding University. The progression rules and procedures for the PhD programme will be set by the awarding University and the formal review process will vary slightly depending on University and Department.  You will need to complete 120 credits worth of modules during the first year and satisfy their respective School/Department’s progression rules.
