Join our diverse research community

Our goal is to create a gender-balanced, multi-disciplinary team from a broad range of races, cultures and social backgrounds. As well as academic ability we're interested in your life experience, as we believe listening to different perspectives informs and improves our research. This diversity helps us challenge theories and improve understanding, in order to design optimal hydrogen-based solutions in a vibrant and creative environment.

The CDT, unfortunately, is no longer accepting International student applications for October 2023 intake.

The CDT is still accepting applications from Home students - those from the UK (England, Scotland, Wales & N.Ireland) and the Republic of Ireland - for October 2023 intake.

CDT online Application Form below.

The online application form (see Apply Now link below) to apply to study at the Sustainable Hydrogen CDT must be completed in one sitting and submitted. Half-completed forms, unfortunately, can't be saved for applicants to return to online and complete later.

To help you fill in the Application Form, we have included a list of all its questions (with word limits were applicable). View as PDF document or Word document -  to enable you to draft your answers in advance, before opening an online application form below.

Our integrated PhD is a four year programme which, in addition to your research project, will include a combination of taught skills and experiential learning. The programme provides the training you’d expect with addtional classes which will develop your entrepreneurial, managerial, project and communication skills. Candidates need an equivalent to a 1st or 2(i) honours degree or a postgraduate Masters with distinction. Applicants with backgrounds in all disciplines will be considered as a wide variety of projects are available. We also welcome applications from candidates who have taken a non-traditional route, for example those who may have spent time in industry and are looking to return to education. International applicants will need to meet the relevant English language requirements.
